Pin 1 is not connected to anything inside the LD player, even though it is labeled as ground in the Sony user manual. If pin 1 is used, the PCB will not be able to control the LD player unless the audio cables are connected between the LD player and the PCB. Use pin 7 on the LD end of the RS232 connector for ground.
