INTRODUCTION

The original Dragon's Lair arcade game (Cinematronics 1983) shortens many scenes to keep the game brief. These new ROMs enhance the game by presenting the full video, and also some new choices and branching during play are possible, without complete change to the game structure. Also, a handful of typos in the original data that cause negative effects have been discovered and corrected.

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS

DLE 1.1 follows the standard revision F DIP switch settings chart.

VERSION

DLE version 2.1 is now available.

DLE version 1.1 replaced DLE 1.0 by restoring all of the game difficulty options found in the revision F DIP switch settings chart. DLE 1.0 only functioned correctly with the easy difficulty setting.

ROMS

There are two ROM sets; each set contains four ROMs.
Set DLE_11_P is optimized for the PR-7820 laserdisc player & early v1 boardset.
Set DLE_11_L is optimized for the LD-V1000 laserdisc player & v1 Rev. C boardset.

The only difference between the two ROM sets is how values of time are defined. Different disc player & boardset combinations behave differently. Each ROM set has been fine-tuned for its hardware configuration specified above; however, both new ROM sets will function with any configuration and play the same game. If you are using an LD-V1000 with a modified early v1 boardset, or a PR-7820 with a Rev. C boardset, it is recommended to use the ROM set optimized for your disc player. If you are using any other newer model of disc player, you should probably use set DLE_11_L, but only trial & error will determine which set works better for you.

Dragon's Lair uses type 2764 or 27C64 EPROMs or compatible, rated 250ns or faster (2764-25).
EPROMs rated slower, such as 300ns and higher (2764-30), have been reported incompatible.*
National Semiconductor brand EPROMs have been reported incompatible.*
*(These are original hardware incompatibilities, not specific to this ROM.)

The download contains readme11.txt. This complete text file, or a printout of it, MUST accompany all distribution of DLE.
It is a record of how these ROMs differ from the original. Keep it together with the ROM files. Keep a printout with your game cabinet, including through any change of ownership. Please don't leave new owners clueless. Thank you!

• In my honest opinion, This set of EPROMs is the Best Upgrade/Enhancement for this game since the game first came out over 16 Years Ago.
  
  I'm not kidding. If there is anyone who has any doubts about getting a set of these NEW EPROMs, you are only keeping yourself from the Best way of playing the game, EVER!!!
  
  The smoothness of the animation from scene to scene. Or even from scene to death scene. The adding of scene pieces that were left out of the original game to the adding of the Draw Bridge scene. And also some cool shortcuts added too.

• Those of you who have not tried Dave Hallock's ROM revisions for the Dragon's Lair Arcade game are truly missing out on some exciting game play revisions!! I just installed them on my Dragon's Lair game and was blown away at what Dave has accomplished. It looks like he put a LOT of time and energy into this project, and he should be congratulated! Besides now being able to finally see and play ALL of the animation on the Laser Disc (Including the Drawbridge Scene!!!!) New moves have been added to better match the animation. Some different CHOICES in action are now possible. Scenes now move SMOOTHLY from one to the other, and those annoying blackouts during and between scenes have either been eliminated or considerably shortened. • Anyway, if you don't have the enhanced ROMS, get them now! They will add that spark back into it, since you can probably beat the game with your eyes closed now. • I have the DLE ROMs in my Dragon's Lair and I can honestly say that I will never go back to the older revisions. The fact that DLE fixes the unnecessary disc player searches and does not cut the end of every scene makes it well worth getting it. - J.K. 3/Aug/2000
